Youth Mission Trip to Ypsilanti, Michigan

A group of adults, children, and youth from OBC traveled to Ypsilanti, Michigan this summer to assist pastor Dexter Hardy and Connections Community Church with church planting efforts.  While on the trip, the group stayed at Eastern Michigan University and visited various neighborhoods in the community to place flyers on mailboxes to spread teh word of Connections Community Church which meets at Lincoln High School.  Flyers were also placed to announce the back yard bible club that the OBC group lead in the neighborhood park.    There were also several community service projects that the group assisted with while in Ypsilanti.  Some of the group worked at the food co-op while others worked at Lincoln High School.  The group pulled weeds, painted, and moved boxes and furniture.  Each night the group met and led backyard bible activities for the children and then would participate in prayer and devotionals after arriving back to the dorm.  At the end of the week, the group partnered with Connections Community Church and hosted a Block Party.  MANY attended the festivities which included food, bouncies, games, face painting and music by the OBC praise band!  Many seeds were planted in the Ypsilanti community and we are so thankful for the opportunity to be servants for Christ.

Corinth Baptist Church

Magee, Mississippi

On March 26, 2009 a category 3 tornado touched down in the small town of Magee, MS. leaving behind trees up-rooted and twisted. Roofs were taken off homes and a church was completely destroyed. The word went out that Corinth Baptist Church was GONE! The lives of these people would never be the same. There were weddings planned, activities in progress, and ALL was gone. The pastor’s residence sat across the road was also crumbled. Thankfully no one was at either place since the time was 1:45 a.m.

God saw it fit to send the right people at the right time to answer the prayers of His saints at Corinth.  On May 27th rebuilding began with the ‘BUILDERS FOR CHRIST”.  100 members or more of this team came from all over to offer their love and helping hand. They, with other teams and Corinth church members came together to put up the frame of the sanctuary and had it roofed in just a matter of days.

In June a large team of “CARPENTERS FOR CHRIST” from Talladega Al and all over the U.S. came to help. There were 172 members present along with other volunteers. This group built the educational building and Christian Life Center. This group stayed 10 days.

On July 12, 2009 a small group of “CARPENTERS FOR CHRIST” from the Coosa River Association, along with other volunteers added plumbing and electrical work to these areas.

The humble attitude and God felt ‘THANKS’ received from people with Corinth Baptist has inspired us all. Nobody can go to this site and come back the same person.  A site like this makes you know that God is in control and He wants us to help our brothers and sisters in Christ. To everything there is a season!

Members of our church and other Carpenters For Christ members left for Magee, Mississippi on July 12 and returned July 17.  They were part of an ongoing effort to rebuild Corinth Baptist Church.  Corinth Baptist was totally destroyed in March of this year by a tornado.  With the help of Christian men and women dedicated to the work of Christ, the work accomplished so far is showed in the slides above.

Please take time to look at pictures, from Corinth's website, of some of the devastation that occurred on March 26, 2009.  Click on the link below to go to their website.
